Microscope Auctions Privacy Policy

The Microscope Auctions web site is owned by National Microscope Exchange, Inc.  We are committed to protecting the privacy of our clients and visitors to our web site. We fully support the Fair Information Practice Principles and want to be clear and straightforward about our privacy policy. We believe the following spells out clearly our privacy policy and information practices:

1. What information may be collected? How could it be used?

We may request and collect certain basic information from you on our web site. For example, when you choose to contact us we may request your name, mailing address, e-mail address & phone number. Unless you choose to provide information to us, we will not obtain personally-identifying information about you when you visit our site, other than general information for web site performance assessment purposes such as the number of visitors to the different sections, the web address from where they linked to our site, the domain name, the date, time and the duration of your visit to help make our site the best it can be. When you submit an auction item to us, we record the information and images you submit with the advertisement. We record any changes you make to the ad and keep all changes on file. We also record the statistics associated with the advertisement such as (but not limited to) hits, views, inquiries, bidders, bids, and fees. If you submit feedback on a transaction you've completed, your comments will be recorded. In addition, if someone has submitted feedback on a transaction they've completed with you, their comments will be recorded as well.

2. Are cookies used?

Yes Cookies are used. "Cookies" are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer's hard drive through your web browser to enable our systems to recognize your browser. Cookies let us "remember" information about your preferences and passwords and allow you to move within our web sites without reintroducing yourself. We use cookie and web beacon technology to track which pages on our sites our visitors view and which web browsers our visitors use. Cookies allow us to record session information. They record user-specific information on what pages customers access or visit, record past activity at a site in order to provide better service when customers return to our site, and customize web page content on customers' browser type or other information that the customer sends.

Cookies do not enable us to determine the identity of any visitor to our web site. We cannot identify you unless you specifically tell us who you are.

Most Internet browsers permit you to erase or block cookies. Refer to your browser instructions or help screens to assist you in these processes: preventing your browser from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. Please note that cookies permit you to take full advantage of our site features and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

3. Will any of the collected information be disclosed to others?

We will not identify any registrant to the site to any other person or entity except in the event that the registrant is a winning high bidder in a completed auction or the seller in a completed auction.  In the latter event, high bidders and sellers will be informed that the auction has ended and asked to complete their transaction. If you post information to the ?about me? page of the site, this may be published.  Further, if you submit feedback on a transaction you've completed, or if someone has submitted feedback on a transaction they've completed with you, these comments may be displayed on the site. We do not sell, trade or rent your information to others. In the future, occasionally, in order to provide you with additional valuable services or conveniences, we may choose to share the information collected with trustworthy third parties to process applications.  We cannot absolutely assure you that your information will never be disclosed to third parties in a manner other than is described in this document. We may disclose personal information, without notice, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on us or the site; (b) protect and defend our rights or property, and, (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of this site, or the public (d) when required to enforce our Terms of Use or this Privacy and Security Policy.  This includes exchanging information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection and credit risk reduction.  Your transmissions may be intercepted by illegal methods, and information that is collected by sellers or buyers may be misused.
